X-Ecutor Addon

Posted  by Theendisgone at 17:29 PM

The x-ecuter team will soon announce an addon for their x-ecuter award winning modchip. It's a cable that when connected to the modchip, allows you to flash x-ecuter with any new bios publicly available. Just like the cheapLPC cable from renowned milksop creator, you connect the cable directly to your computer on the lpt port. Also, the x-ecuter modchip has a flash capacity rated of about 100 000 times. Of course, you will have to shell out more money again, but hey! Isn't not what you were waiting for?

Not entirely sure if this is for real, but it sounds reasonable enough. The addon solves what I considered to be the one of the only drawbacks of the x-ecutor. =)

Thanks to Jusplayn for pointing this out.

Xbox Media Player Beta 5

Posted  by Theendisgone at 17:16 PM

Next Beta expected tonight (no later than midnight GMT) assuming that there are no more major bugs in the code! Here's some info from d7o3g4q:

What's in this release:
New GUI (from contest winner!)
A/V sync no longer drifts.
Divx3.11 support
Divx4.xx support
XviD support (this is new and is probably going to have some problems)
VCD (mpeg1) support
MP3 support

What's still to come:
divx 5.0
mpeg2

There are a few minor issues we know about. We don't precalculate the playback time of mp3s or vcds. vcds will never have a playback time. mp3s will when I get around to it.

AC3 downmixes to stereo but will come out on all 6 channels. This too will be soon fixed after the release.

Update: It's out! Great work d7o3g4q and RUNTiME!
I'm sure you all know where to get it.

Xbox Hardware Security Updated

Posted  by Theendisgone at 02:41 PM

That's what seems to be the case...

CEO Jen Shun Huang said that the second quarter was bad for sales of PCs, with a 13 per cent drop compared to the first quarter.

But he appeared to blame most of the problems on a fall in stock of chips it won't sell, because, he claimed, Microsoft changed security codes on Xbox machines and chips already manufactured won't work with the new codes.

Nvidia therefore had to write off these chips.

The chip in question would be the MCPX...just the other day, I heard from someone who had a new kernel revision. Perhaps these are new boxes? If this news is true, we can expect to hear shortly about their modability.

Another Transcript

Posted  by Theendisgone at 12:46 PM

I was somewhat suspicious that Microsoft would give out as much detail as the previous posted transcript had to support personnel so early...they still have time to be working on the Live software. Guess we'll have to just wait and find out.

That last transcript I am certain was a joke, I shouldn't be posting news when I am so tired ;-) It did seem a tad extreme. Please ignore, or just have a good laugh then, hehehe. Here's what an xbox.com guy really said about this:

Question: Does the xbox live games detect a modchip? If so how and why?

( johnny has joined )
( Jean-Francois has joined )
Jean-Francois: Hello and welcome to the Xbox Interactive Online Support, my
name is Jean-Francois.
johnny: Hi Jean
johnny: Just curios cause I was going to use a modchip for homebrew stuff
Jean-Francois: We do not know at this time, but it is a possibility.
johnny: can you give me more info than that
johnny: ?
johnny: like check this out
johnny: Question: Is it true that Xbox online can detected a modded Xbox ?
( Human has joined ) ( Chris has joined ) Chris: Hello and welcome to Xbox
interactive online chat support! My name is Chris. Chris: Of Course, we have
implemented several checks for that Chris: First of all we check all the
Harddisk Partition Size, if any of them is larger then normal, we will
restore the partition Table Chris: Secondly, we check if we can write to the
bios, if we can we will restore the old bios, No harm there Chris: Thirdly,
we will verify the dashboard executable, as you know, we are allready
replacing them by default, but just an extra check wouldn't hurt Chris:
Fourtly, we will scan the Harddisk for XBE files. if we detect unsigned
files,or files from our "Dead list" we will. well.. they will found out what
we will do :-) Human: But all i wanted was a bigger harddisk for my mp3
collection! Chris: And eat peanut m&ms ?
Jean-Francois: One moment while I read it johnny.
johnny: thanx
johnny: sorry bout the formating
johnny: u know that chris guy?
Jean-Francois: No and I do not think this is coming from here. Moreover, I
do not have any history of previous sessions. All of this is only
speculation, we do not have any official information about the security
checks the Xbox will be able to perform when using Xbox Live.
johnny: Thats what I thought thanx bro.
johnny: Mind if I copy this conversation?
Jean-Francois: Sure, go ahead johnny.
johnny: have a great day.
Jean-Francois: It does not sound like something we would say, we try to
remain very professional at all times.
Jean-Francois: You too !
Jean-Francois: I hope that you have found our session today helpful! At the
end of this session, there will be a small survey, be sure to fill it out!
Thank you for using the Xbox Interactive Online Support and I hope you have
a nice day!

Thanks to Marc for emailing me this.

Xbox-Linux Article

Posted  by Theendisgone at 04:19 PM

The Xbox Linux Project, a group of programmers trying to bring Linux software to Microsoft's Xbox, released a "pre-alpha" version of the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) that will eventually run open-source code on the game console. When completed, the BIOS, a crucial price of software that lets hardware communicate with software, will allow programmers to boot Linux up on the device. Pre-alpha versions are the earliest stage of the software development process.

Posted  by Theendisgone at 00:25 PM

Hello all, Sorry to those who have missed us!
In the past few weeks l have personally had major life changing problems. And becasue of these problems l have been unable to contribute to the Xpad team, which has gave the impression that the team is dead. I would like to tell you all that this is not the case. I hope in the next few weeks, l can catch up with my team, and push our goals forward to get this project into some kind of order.

We will create the ultimate driver for the Xbox Controller.

And to all those fans, thanks and we do apreciate it all.

Compiled Xbox Info

Posted  by Theendisgone at 17:08 PM

Thanks to Deaper for his time spent compiling a ton of useful info in the forums:

Just for the heck of it I've decided to compile a few lists of some of the more useful posts from each forum. That way you can better find information that either you have read before and want to read again, or that you are too lazy to actually search for. These posts are not by any means the only posts on a forum that are informative. But I've posted some of the more informative posts on the list.
There's nor real order to this list or anything I pretty much added them in the order I found them, although there may be a few exceptions here and there.

xSNES9x beta 3 released!
Posted by Theendisgone at 2:00 AM

Well a new release, and a chance for me to get some news put up *rolls eyes*. Here's what's new and some words from the author.

·  Fixed issue with DSP-1 games. Super Mario Kart, Pilotwings etc now run correctly.

·  Fixed Jumbled tile/misplaced pixel issue with some games (DKC, Secret of Evermore, Metroid).

·  Added preliminary .ini file support. Read the .ini file section below.

·  Gamepad can now be configured in the ini file. Read the 'Buttons' section below on how to perform this.

·  Removed unzipped Rom Header extraction code. Was creating more problems than benefiting. ROMs will now be displayed by filename only.

·  ROMs are now sorted properly in the menu.

Authors Note :

"I've spent almost a solid week fixing the compatibility issues. xSnes9x should equal that of the Windows version in compatibility.

Enjoy this release - I'm off to play some Mario Kart :)"

Stella V2 released
Posted by Theendisgone at 12:34 PM

A new release of Stella for Xbox was released yesterday which brought it in line with all the other recent emu's being released.
Here's what's new:

This one has been due an update for a long time. This release puts it
in line with my more recent Emu releases. Fixes/improvements include:

·  Sound is fixed

·  NTSC/PAL should work the same

·  Sorted listings

·  Return to dashboard

·  Search for cheat codes

·  Reload game list

·  Configuration from INI file

·  Resize/reposition game screen

A STELLA.INI file can be written from inside the emulator.
To configure Stella, press the Left Thumbstick. This will let you select
the font height, the menu text offset, and the screen modifiers.

You can make the gamescreen as big or as small as you like and reposition it anyw
here.

When you make your changes, it will rewrite the STELLA.INI file (if it was loaded
from
the Xbox hard drive) If you are running the emulator from a CD/DVD media, you'll
have to construct your own STELLA.INI file and write it to the root directory.

The structure of the STELLA.INI file is as follows:

# # # # # #

Each # represents a number. They are as follows:

First # - Text offset
Second # - Font height
Third # - Game screen X position
Fourth # - Game screen Y position
Fifth # - Game screen width
Sixth # - Game screen height

So, for example, your STELLA.INI file might look like this:

0 12 10 20 630 450

This would mean:

Text offset = 0
Font height = 12
Game screen upper left hand corner position (x,y) = (10,20)
Game screen width = 630
Game screen height = 450

**YOU MUST HAVE A SPACE CHARACTER AFTER THE LAST NUMBER IN THE INI FILE!**

I've included an example STELLA.INI file.

Gnuboy v4 released!
Posted by Theendisgone at 0:46 AM

Gnuboy has been updated to version 4!
The changes for this release are as follows (from the readme):

Save States
All the other UI stuff to bring it in line with the other emus

The GNUBOY.INI file can now be written automatically from inside the emulator.
To configure Gnuboy, press the Left Thumbstick. This will let you select
the font height and the menu text offset.

*This will also let you resize and reposition the game screen to whatever you wan
t*

You can make the gamescreen as big or as small as you like and reposition it anyw
here.

When you make your changes, it will rewrite the GNUBOY.INI file (if it was loaded
from
the Xbox hard drive) If you are running the emulator from a CD/DVD media, you'll

0 12 10 20 630 450

This would mean:

Text offset = 0
Font height = 12
Game screen upper left hand corner position (x,y) = (10,20)
Game screen width = 630
Game screen height = 450

**YOU MUST HAVE A SPACE CHARACTER AFTER THE LAST NUMBER IN THE INI FILE!**

I've included an example GNUBOY.INI file.

Dgen v2 released
Posted by Theendisgone at 1:05 AM

A new version of this Xbox Emu has been released, here's what he say's what's new:

This release should fix a lot of problems with the core of the emulator.
The v1 version was using v0.26a of the StarScream engine. This was later
updated by the GENS author to v0.26c to fix a number of bugs. I've
implemented this newer StarScream version. Furthermore, there is also
an option for using a Musashi 68000 core - which I've also implemented from
the most recent release. Both engines play games that v1 could not.

X-ecuter Mod Pic
Posted by Theendisgone at 21:43 PM

News Source: X-ecuter

A picture of the X-ecuter Xbox modchip that can be pre-ordered from LikSang has finally been released.

Also a faq has been given to answer some questions:

:: FAQ ::

Q: How can the mod work with just 1 wire ?
A: Easy. X-ecuter uses a specially designed PCB which is soldered direct to the mainboard - takes 30 seconds.

Q: Surely I can just use one of the public bios' released ?
A: Yes you can. However X-ecuter is the only bios with ALL features on one device. Plus its cheap and easy to install. There are always those
that will flash there own bios - but there are also always those that want to use the latest mod, and this is it.

Q: Can you flash the onboard bios using Evolution-X software and with an X-ecuter installed ?
A: Yes you can.

Q: So basically what you are saying is that this mod takes 5 minutes to fit, and has ALL the features of Enigmah & Evolution-X on one mod ?
A: Absolutely.

Q: Will X-ecuter be working on any new features ?
A: We have an add-on mod in development right now. We can't say what it is yet - but oh yes you'll love it :)

Q: Well isn't this mod just the Evo-x bios ?
A: Of course not - if it was it wouldn't have all the features on one kernel would it ?

Q: I've been hearing stories about you guys being bullshit - care to comment ?
A: The mod uses 1 wire, it takes seconds to install, its cheap, it works. Where's the bullshit ?

Dgen for Xbox v1 Released!!!
Posted by Theendisgone at 19:30 PM

The author that has brought us Stella, Gnuboy, SMSPlus, FCEUltra, HUGO, NeoPop, has now ported Dgen to Xbox in 1 day! This has proven how easy it is to port things to the Xbox with a simple framework. Here is what the readme says.

"Same features as all the others (sound, cheat, Savegame), except no save states. It might be a while before you see save states for this one, so don't hold your breath.

Should have the same compatibility as DGen.

Certain games are flaky and can really screw up the emulator to the point where it won't run any games correctly anymore. Instead of rebooting, I've added an option to reload the emulator XBE file. To do this, press the Left-Thumb and Right-Thumb analog joysticks as if they were buttons. I've verified this to work off the HD. It should work off a CD, but I have not tried it.

Also - if you load up a game and it does nothing but give you a black screen, you should reload the emulator XBE. If you don't you'll probably soon have to do a hard reboot of the Xbox because the XBE will lock up tight. Again, this is due to some flakiness in the emulator."

It is simply a pleasure having such great underground developers such as the anonymous author of the emulators he has ported.

"After successful trials and testing with our team of beta testers, we can announce that the X-ecuter will be available before 29th July.

Forget silly clones like messiah-x and Pandora - you may as well just use an enigmah or xtender for $10 as the features are the same

No other mod has the no-patch hack, no reset on eject hack and hdd patch all on one device.

Pictures and installation diagrams will be available at the end of the week.

Every feature that can be unlocked via the bios is now complete. So no need for any flashing of your bios or updates.
All tools and fun stuff will now be software based like the evolution-x and boXplorer.

Xbox Utility "boXplorer" Released
Posted by Theendisgone at 1:27 AM

Info from the readme.txt file:

"boXplorer is a file browser for Xbox which allows you to directly browse
files and folders on the Xbox harddisk and DVD drive.
boXplorer can also view Xbox video media files (*.WMV) and launch other
application or games (*.XBE files).
boXplorer can be booted from a DVD/CD or added to your Xbox harddrive and
launched from there.
boXplorer is a great addition to Evolution X dashboard (on either
harddrive or DVD/CD) since it provides browsing capabilities which
Evolution X currently lacks.
boXplorer currently does not contain any copy/rename/delete/move file
capabilities, but this is under serious consideration for a future release
"

Thanks too the author T'ulkas for the news.

Sorry I am to tired to go hunting for the file for download, try looking on irc somewhere.

Nvidia-Microsoft to work on Xbox II
Posted by Theendisgone at 23:21 PM

News Source The Inquirer

"PEACE APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN OUT between aggressive graphics chip company Nvidia and belligerent graphics chip company Microsoft, if reports in today's Economic News of Taiwan are to be credited.
And Nvidia is still chummy with TSMC and is developing 130 nanometer graphics chips with the Taiwanese foundry, the report adds.

The newspaper quotes K.B. Ng, Nvidia sales chief in the APAC region, as saying that his firm will work together to produce the next design of the Xbox, The Xbox II.

Microsoft and Nvidia are currently engaged in a dispute over the last generation of the Xbox, and we know that the Vole wants Graphzilla to charge a lot less for chipsets in the console.

Ng claimed that Nvidia will have over 10 per cent of Athlon XP market this year as its Nforce II chipset gets rolled out into motherboards."

  • Battery backed SaveRAM support

Other then that, it supposedly runs faster then xNES. Have fun!

  • The code was cut up to save some ram into two pieces, Neo Geo / CPS2 and FULL.

    Xbox Debugger
Posted by Theendisgone at 22:52 PM

Hello Xbox Developers! From the author who brought you GNUBoy-X and SMSPlus-X, now has brought you a Xbox Debugger for you programmers. Here is what was included in the read me.

"This is a client/server package that will let you send send debug messages from your XBOX to your computer via TCP/IP.

This package can also serve as a beginner's guide to the XBOX networking API and to network programming for Windows."

All released in source code only, and some binaries (for windows). For the advanced user. You can download it here

    SMSPlus for Xbox Released
Posted by Theendisgone at 1:03 AM

    News from Consolevision:

From the author who brought us GNUBoy, is his new port of SMSPlus for Xbox. It features the following.

    ·  Put ROMs in \SMSROMS

    ·  Should work the same on both PAL/NTSC systems

    ·  Seems to be some frame issues - still ironing out, but just about everything plays beautifully. Sounds great too.

    ·  Zip support

    ·  Search for cheat codes. (*REAL* easy - I made unlimited lives and invincibility codes for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (GG) in about 5 minutes.)

    ·  Don't try to enter Game Genie codes for Game Gear. Those codes only affect the ROM image instead of patching RAM so they won't work.

We can not provide downloads for this emulator, as it was made with the XDK. Find it on IRC

Well the video seen from IRC and on Consolevision (Download Below) is now confirmed to be true footage, and now the real deal has been released. It appears to come from the anonymous author who brought us HandyX. Here is what's featured

bulletPAL/NTSC Detect & correct, frame 1 in 5 frame drop for PAL 50Hz.

bulletFrame skipping implemented as performance is borderline.

bulletFrame skip code is a little flakey, needs more work.

bulletSome games skip, some don't, be lucky!

bulletSome emulation problems exist, don't complain

GBAX Video (Right Click-Save As..) 7.6MB, DivX

Due to legal reasons, we can not provide binaries here as it was produced with the XDK, however if you look good enough on efnet IRC servers, you'll be able to find it.

    News Source: Evolution-X

The site is back in action & has been given a new design.

"Hey guys. The site is back! :) Many thanks to RuDeDuDe for the new web design. We're are still testing it out and working out the bugs. We notice that the text icons to the left aren't working correctly with Netscape (Mozilla). Also with IE there seems to be an ugly white border around the tables. These will be taken care of soon enough. ;) The forums are open again! We have a lot of guides uploaded (and updated!) so check them out."

"We've added some very helpful EvolutionX guides to the site.. go check them out (they have pictures too! ). Many thanks to Fulg0re for creating and providing us with these guides."

Man that was some short break they had, not even worth sending a post card :)

Carry on the good work guys.

    DEXiP v0.1 Tool
Posted by Theendisgone at 18:12 PM

The Dextrose team have updated their site with mention of a new tool.

"hey there ... has been quite some time since the last release, donno I think it was
IP.BIN 4 WIN or H.U.G.O ... pft well and as I am getting warm at Xbox I think now
after EvoX is out its nice to start with this little tool.

Its meant for checking info from the xip archive and extract files.

to round things up .. basically everything in the dashboard is defined inside here -
with a simple scripting language .. if I get the time I'll try to put together a nice
editor for all of this ...

had quite a good time when I checked all the M$ VRML JavaScript mixture of code ... "

    Visit Dextrose for the -=download=-

    Atari 2600 Emu for XBOX
Posted by Theendisgone at 10:11 AM

    News Source: XboxHacker.net

Icy2k got this nice info from a anon person on irc (efnet #xboxhacker)

    ReadMe Release Notes:
This is a port of Stella 1.2 for the Xbox.

Obviously, I ripped the menu code from Mame-XBox. Credit goes to opcode for that.

At the moment, there's only one bug that I know about : from time to
time the audio will drift and get garbled. It only lasts about 10 seconds though
and then everything is back to normal. If I get some more time, I'll try and address
    that issue.

The only other improvement I might add is a cheat-code finder.

It takes a while to load up, so be patient.

    Enjoy!

You can find more details about Stella here

A programme called CXBX has been released:

CXBX is a program that converts a raw Xbox game into an executable PE (.exe) file, so that eventually it can be played on your PC. It is unsure what the system requirements will be to play these translations, but almost definitely your CPU will need to be a P3, and you will most likely need a GeForce card compatible to the Xbox's."

    Release Notes:

    Beta 5:
    *************

Opcode is no longer working on this project
Superfro is trying to help out the scene =).

Added splash, soon to be nice gfx when someone makes me one.

    Added color, ahhh.

Added Rom Searching message (and progress) at bootup. (good for lots of ROMs).

    Added Rom Loading progress meter.

When a rom fails to load, it now prints some error messages for you.

Fixed bug where if a game doesn't load and is just black, it doesn't just sit there you can hit
back+start to go back to the menu. (You'll notice these guys have sound too if you push OK and
keep messing with the buttons, Working on figuring out why now)

    Clones displaying is an option now, at the selection screen press X;

MAME-X beta 5 is based on MAME 0.60 for pc.

    MAME-X beta 5 ?
Posted by Theendisgone at 8:48 AM

So people can't always win, so an anonymous coder on IRC has decided to fix up MAME-X. This underground release has been speculating on one of the big networks on IRC. It supposedly contains a new splash screen, rom search status, colored menu, rom loading progress bar, and much more little bugs fixed. The source code was obviously compiled by another user though for save measures. Expect a newer beta 6 later to appear with MAME .61 instead of .60 , later sometime today.
